Treaty with the Makah, 1815

This 1815 treaty was between the United States and the Mahas tribe to reestablish peace and friendship after the War of 1812. It stipulated mutual forgiveness for any past injuries or hostilities. The Mahas acknowledged U.S. protection and sovereignty. The treaty, signed at Portage des Sioux, renewed friendly relations between the tribe and the U.S. to their pre-war status.
